I was in the middle of packing for an apartment move last week when I found this print-out from nearly a decade ago. The date (2/29/04) would put me in the 2nd semester of my Sophomore year at CalArts (the one year that I failed to complete a student film). I don’t remember highlighting or underlining this paper, but it was obviously important enough for me to keep.
I post this as an inspiration for you students because I applied for a Pixar internship that Summer and was rejected (probably because the lack of aforementioned student film). I applied the next Summer and was accepted, but not offered a full-time job. It would be two and a half years after printing this page that I would finally land my dream gig as a Pixar Animator.
I guess the moral is: If at first you don’t succeed, study the highlighted/underlined necessary qualifications and try again.
